I was inspired to write this book after years of working with elderly clients and seeing how much they appreciate touch, attention and communication. I discovered that very little has been written about the benefits of touch to the elderly and disabled and, after searching out a course addressing this population, I found that even there I had the most experience, especially with those suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.

I found that other therapists had worked with elderly clients who were mobile and were able to get onto a massage table. They could follow instructions and they understood that they were to receive a massage. No one was working with people with long term and late stages Alzheimer's and other dementias. I soon realized these people have been forgotten and no one really knows how to communicate with them or make them feel better. In working with them I saw and felt their responses. Families can stay in touch and help them feel loved and not abandoned. I hope this story brings some awareness of their situation to their families and caregivers.
